After reading this article ‘Create and customize virtual application patterns‘ and as being an IT Architect, my first question was ‘How difficult it is to create a pattern type?’. So, I started for my first pattern type ever with a very simple scenario ‘A standalone server’ and try to build a pattern type for it. I know this scenario is very simplistic but it helps to understand the different concepts behind the pattern-type. Other articles will follow with more complex scenarios. I recommend each beginner to start with such scenario as it will teach you the basic concepts, the deployment process, the troubleshooting possibility… Continue reading

Portability between IBM SmartCloud Application Services and other IBMPureSystems/IWD is a reality!
I will demonstrate in this video how to port a virtual application pattern created in IBM SmartCloud Application Services (currently in pilot) to the IBM PureApplication System or IBM Workload Deployer. Continue reading
Is provisioning topology on IBM SmartCloud Enterprise possible? Yes, with IBM SmartCloud Application Services.
The IBM SmartCloud Enterprise provides APIs. These APIs can be used to automate the deployment of a server topology on IBM SmartCloud Enterprise. I will show in this article that you can now use IBM SmartCloud Application Services (currently in pilot), and specifically the IBM SmartCloud Application Workload Service, to design and deploy your topology. This capability is also available on the IBM PureApplication System. Continue reading

IBM Impact2012 D+1: IBM Mobile Foundation and IBM PureSystems
Today 30th of April 2012, IBM made two announcements.
First the IBM Mobile Foundation, this new software portfolio provides a toolkit to create new mobile application from the connectivity with Cast Iron, build & development (IBM Worklight and free technical resources on developerWorks), manage and secure (IBM Endpoint Manager) and a set of services to capitalize solutions (IBM Quick Win Pilot).
Secondly, the IBM PureSystems, with the IBM Virtual Pattern kit for Developers which allows developer to create their own plugin and pattern for PureSystems. The developers is able to create its own components, links and policies for pattern. Look at the developerWorks article to know more on “Create and customize virtual application patterns“
IBM Impact2012 D-day: Get free trial on IBM PureApplication System
This was Impact2012 first day and many interesting discussions along the day.
We announced also a 90-days free trial on the IBM PureSystems.
Pass by booth B-16 or T-6 to get more information or visit page Try IBM PureSystems. No charge.
This trial will provide you the possibility to use the collaborative lifecycle management service and create your own virtual application/system pattern and access images from the IBM SmartCloud Enterprise platform.
The booth is open everyday but I’ll be personally at the booth B-16:
– Monday & Tuesday 10:00AM-12:00PM, 02:00PM-04:00PM
– Wednesday: 12:00PM-02:00PM.
Preparing for IBM PureApplication System, Part 5: Developing virt. app. patterns for IBM Workload Deployer with RAD
Summary: Part 5 of this article series shows how to combine the software development features of IBM® Rational® Application Developer with the virtual application pattern assembly capabilities of IBM Workload Deployer to develop cloud applications. With Workload Deployer, you can assemble virtual application patterns consisting of Java™ EE enterprise applications, Web applications, OSGi applications, and other types of components. However, as an application developer, it is predominantly the source code of the components of the pattern you need to work with the most. The latest integrated features of Rational Application Developer and Workload Deployer will help you develop virtual application patterns from the source code on up. Continue ->
Preparing for IBM PureApplication System, Part 4: Onboarding app. to the cloud using the Adv. Middleware Config. tool
Summary: Part 4 of this article series identifies the applications that you can migrate to IBM® PureApplication® System and how to use the Advanced Middleware Configuration tool and IBM Workload Deployer to migrate the applications and to deploy new instances of them into the cloud. Continue ->
Preparing for IBM PureApplication System, Part 3: Choosing a database option
Summary: Part 3 of the article series introduces the integrated IBM® DB2® database formats that are found in IBM PureApplication® System. It describes the different forms of DB2 found in PureApplication System, helps you decide which forms to choose in different situations, and covers some of the recommended best practices using DB2 inside PureApplication System.
